Congratulations to Dr. Prashanti Manda who has been awarded a CAREER grant from the Division of Biological Infrastructure at NSF. The project titled “Ontology-powered Named Entity Recognition and Robust Semantic Similarity Metrics” will develop novel natural language processing methods for recognizing ontology concepts from biological literature. Advances pioneered by this project will enable knowledge discovery from scientific literature and power computational analyses to answer complex biological questions. Educational impacts of the $398,488.00 grant will include the support of UNCG graduate and undergraduate students as well as the development of new courses in cutting edge natural language processing methods.
